The Woodstock Academy Clock 

Client: The Woodstock Academy

Budget: $50,000

The Woodstock Academy, located in the northeast corner of Connecticut, was in the process of renovating and restoring its beloved 150-year-old Academy building when they decided to remove the clock mechanism located in the bell tower of the building. The mechanism, manufactured and installed in 1872 by the E. Howard Watch and Clock Company of Boston, Massachusetts, powered the clock for 148 years, but

required winding at least once a week. It was replaced by an automated system that required minimal attention. In discussions between school staff, the head of school, Design Division, and the project architect, it was decided to display the working clock mechanism along with the original cock hands and bronze bell on the first floor of the renovated building.
