Halibut Point State Park
Client: DCR Massachusetts
Budget: $300,000
Halibut Point State Park, located at the tip of Cape Ann in Massachusetts, is one of the most dramatic natural environments in the state. The location of a former granite quarry, and later an important military facility, the park overlooks the North Atlantic Ocean. The Commonwealth desired to refurbish and reimagine the existing visitor center located in a former military building that included a 60’ tall observation tower.

Interpreting natural and cultural history (the quarry and the military) was the focus of the design.
A thematic focal point was created for each the three main subject areas: the interior of the tower for the military; a scale model of the granite quarrying industry; and an expansive cross section mural of the site for natural history.
